ABOUT Lt. ALAN ALI

Greetings,

My name is Alan Ali. I am a former patrol lieutenant of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. I am a graduate of the University of Massachusetts\Boston. 

I am a first-generation American. My parents are from the Caribbean Island of Montserrat, West Indies. I have over thirty years of law enforcement experience. My law enforcement career began in 1991 when I moved to Dallas, Texas, and joined the Dallas Police Department. I worked uniform patrol in the newly formed Gang Unit and volunteered time in the D.A.R.E. program.

In 1997, I moved to Charleston, South Carolina, and joined the City of Charleston Police Department. During my tenure with the City of Charleston, I worked under the leadership of Chief Reuben Greenberg, where I was soon selected to work on special assignments,

In 1998, I joined the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. I was assigned to the uniform patrol division and was a Charleston County Sheriff's Office SWAT team member. For eleven years, I was a special Deputy United States Marshal. I worked alongside Federal, State, and local—law enforcement agencies throughout the State of South Carolina.

In 2018, I was promoted to Sergeant and worked as a patrol supervisor. I worked as a supervisor in the Metro Narcotics Division and was soon transferred to the Internal Affairs Division. In 2022, I was promoted to lieutenant in the patrol division.

I have taken numerous leadership classes throughout my career and have implemented these leadership courses as part of my management style.

Throughout my 30-year career, I walked alongside numerous community members and law enforcement officers in high-crime areas. I have spoken at numerous religious/civic organizations' functions. I have run numerous 5K, 10K, half-marathon(s), and full marathon events (M.A.D.D., Women's Ovarian Cancer, Special Olympics Torch Runs, M.U.S.C. Children's Hospital…etc.) benefiting charities throughout the low country. Before I departed from the sheriff's Office, I visited fifty elementary, middle, and high school(s) throughout Charleston County. I have encouraged all students, regardless of their background, to believe in themselves and to be productive members of our society.

Throughout my law enforcement career, I have always remained in touch, tuned in, and engaged with all the citizens I was sworn to "protect and serve."
