The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the daily operations at the Al Cannon

Detention Center. When a person is arrested, transported, and booked into jail, their civil rights

remain intact.

The detention center requires effective leadership to create a work environment that prioritizes

the well-being of the staff overseeing the jail population. It is essential to address staffing issues.

I will consider conducting a nationwide search for a new jail administrator or promoting from

within.

Programs within the purview of the Detention Center that address inmates’ educational

opportunities, mental health, substance abuse, and reintegration into society will be refined.
